Animation of a molecule of DNA rotating. DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is the molecule that carries the genetic information necessary to build an organism. It comprises two helical strands of sugar-phosphate (blue and orange) winding around each other; linked by pairs of inward-pointing bases (red and yellow). The sequence of the bases on each strand is a code that allows proteins to be built.
